GT: From corner shop to a Global Church
Glory Tabernacle otherwise known as GT, grew out of a corner shop that are since been demolished but the church moved on to become one of the cornerstones of soul-winning and evangelism. The church formally came into existence in yea 2001 after that year’s Easter Let’s-Go-A-Fishing Programme, which was organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the open field of the then Abuja Environmental Protection Board Play Ground along Kwame Nkrumah Crescent. In what started with a simple film show and love feast to evangelise the residents of the neighbourhood, that year’s L-G-A-F programme, turned out to birth a flourishing parish of the RCCG at the end of the event. Although it suffered teething challenges initially, GT worshipped under a canopy in the open field and had to contend with rains at times and harsh weather at other times but the enthusiasm of the brethren kept the young church going and one of the families, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Akpabio, who resided in Asokoro at the time, provided the needed assistance for the fledging church from time to time until the church settled down. Despite its challenges, God grew His church gradually and in 2003, GT gave birth to a new parish known as Solid Rock Assembly, which took off from the Command Guest House, Multi-purpose Hall, Asokoro, Abuja, which has since grown to become a zonal headquarters and operating from its own property.
In August, 2005, Assistant Pastor Kofo Adepegba, who was the pastor of GT Asokoro moved over to the United Kingdom and A/P Olu Olunuga was posted to GT and he moved the church from the corner shop to the Premises of the New Capital School Asokoro, where the parish continued to grow under the guidance of the Almighty God and gave rise to new parishes over the years. In December 2005, a new parish called Jesus Tabernacle was planted after the L-G-A-F programme at Kpaduma (Kuruduma 1) village, Asokoro Extension. The new parish was planted in a new auditorium, which was built in 21 days and equipped with chairs, musical instruments, generator and other esentiala facilities required to make it work under the leadership of the then Dcn. Seni Olatunji and Wife, Sis. Francisca and assisted by Dcn. Aje Oga and a team of workers among them, Bro Kanu Udonsi and his wife, Sis. Josephine, Sis. Judith Abraham, Bro.Folusho Fagbeja, Bro. Obi Abang, and Bro. Pam.
The GT parish continued to grow and in April 15, 2006, three more parishes were planted. These were: Praise Tabernacle located at Kobi village, about 5km after Kuruduma 1 village, Asokoro with A/P G I Oni and Dcn. Vincent Eburuam assisting her; Grace Tabernacle located at Piwoyi along Airport Road under the leadership of Dcn. Goke Osuntokun, and Dominion Tabernacle located at Kuje also along the airport road with A/P Femi Babade.
Today, GT has spearheaded the birth of many parishes to the glory of God and has through such avenues taken the Gospel to many parts of Abuja and reached the unreached for Christ.
Among the churches planted by GT are:
Miracle Tabernacle, Kobi Village, Kuruduma 1, Village, Asokoro, Faith Tabernacle, All Nations Tabernacle, Jesus Tabernacle, Praise Tabernacle, Grace Tabernacle, Dominion Tabernacle, Rock of Salvation (jointly established with Solid Rock Area in 2007), Faith Tabernacle, Love Tabernacle and Finishers’ Tabernacle, Tabernacle of Praise, The Father’s Tabernacle etc.The parishes would not have flourished as rapid as they did if not for God’s anointed servants who groomed them under the influence and guidance of the Almighty God. Among the pastors who spearheaded the growth of the GT parishes were: A/P Kofo Adepegba, A/P Femi Olunuga, Dcn. A. Ankomah, Pst. Francis Onuegbu, Dcn Victor Gimba, Pst. Akinyemi Bolaji, Pastor Dan Ogun and his wife, Pastor Ruth, Pstor Yinka Tonade and wife, Pastor Shade, before the arrival of Pastor Chinedu Ezekwesili, Assistant Pastor in charge of FCT Province 3 (CSR) and Wife, Pastor Oby Ezekwesili, (WAPICP) in 2018 to consolidate on the work done by their predecessors to lift GT to a higher pedestal.
From the little seed that sprang out from a corner shop in Asokoro in 2001, GT has now grown from a small Parish to an Area and Zonal Headquarters and, it is progressing steadily after relocating from a school premises to its permanent location in the same highbrow area of Asokoro, close to the seat of power to the glory of God, wining souls and reaching the unreached for Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever!
